Charlotte Savage

FOUNDER & CIO

Charlotte Savage, founder of HaiLa Technologies, is a proven technology executive in the low power wireless IoT space, most recently featured in Forbes 30 under 30 Energy division for 2020. With experience in the medtech and semiconductor industries validating prototypes, product market fit and fundraising, Charlotte launched her company out of TandemLaunch, a deep tech incubator, where she and her team demonstrated the commercial viability of the technology through proof of concept partnerships and high profile pitch competitions such as winning the Nokia Open Innovation Challenge in 2019. Before founding HaiLa, Charlotte studied mechanical engineering, specializing in biomedical applications, at Concordia University and was simultaneously working as a product developer & manager at NXTSENS Microsystems.

Ramzy Metwalli

CFO

Mr. Metwalli brings over 25 years of financial executive experience to HaiLa. He is a board-certified CPA, CMA with experience in a wide range of technical industries from biocosmetics to lighting and videoconferencing equipment manufacturing. He has served as Chief Financial Officer to both private and public companies, assisting in numerous key milestones including fundraising and M&A transactions. Prior to joining HaiLa, Mr. Metwalli held the position of CFO and GM at Zorah Biocosmetics. Mr. Metwalli received his BAC in accounting from HEC Montreal.

Greg Allen

Chairperson

Greg Allen most recently served as the CEO and is currently a Director of Wellington Drive Technologies (WDT), a New Zealand public company and a leading global industrial equipment and IoT company. At WDT he successfully led a financial turnaround and oversaw the pivot of the company from industrial hardware to IoT sensors and cloud based software services, resulting in record revenue and profit growth. Prior to WDT Greg led the Green Technology and Industrial business unit for Celestica, a Toronto based manufacturing and supply chain services company. With a focus on complex financial turnarounds, innovative product and customer strategies and business scale-up; Greg has developed and executed growth and operating plans within a broad range of tech and industrial markets. Based in Vancouver Canada, Greg holds an MBA from Napier University, Edinburgh and gained his education in radio and electronics qualifications in the New Zealand Army. Greg has successfully completed the University of Toronto Rotman Directors Education Program. In addition to HaiLa, Greg sits on the board of a Mining IoT start-up developing new sensor technology to measure equipment wear and provide actionable insights to the equipment operator. He also serves on the Richmond, British Columbia Economic Advisory Committee supporting the city in developing new growth strategies.

Helge Seetzen

Director

Dr. Seetzen is general partner, founder and CEO of TandemLaunch, the Montreal based deep tech incubator where HaiLa was originally founded. To date, TandemLaunch has helped over 25 technology companies. Prior to founding TandemLaunch, Dr. Seetzen was co-founder and chief technology officer at BrightSide Technologies, a display technology company that was subsequently sold to Dolby Labs in 2007. Dr. Seetzen brings with him decades of experience successfully commercializing academic research and technology, negotiating strategic agreements with most major consumer technology companies, and executed dozens of technology transfer agreements with a global network of over 50 universities. Dr. Seetzen earned his B.Sc and PhD in physics at the University of British Columbia.

Sam Heidari

Board Member

Dr. Sam Heidari is a connectivity and communication technologist with extensive experience in the semiconductor and telecommunications industry. Over his 25 year career, Dr. Heidari has held a variety of senior management and technical positions including VP of R&D, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Executive Officer at various companies leading to multiple successful exits. Dr. Heidari joined Quantenna in 2009 as vice president of R&D, leading the innovation effort in WiFi communication before being appointed CEO in 2011. Under his leadership, Quantenna underwent a successful IPO in 2016 before being acquired by ON Semiconductor in 2019. Prior to Quantenna, he served as CTO and VP of Engineering at Ikanos Communications, a firm he joined in 2006 via its acquisition of Doradus Technologies, where he served as president and CEO. Dr. Heidari earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from University of Southern California, and a B.S. degree from Northeastern University, all in Electrical Engineering.

Richard MacKellar

Board Member

Mr. MacKellar is an entrepreneur, business leader, university adjunct professor and the former CEO of multiple startups. Since 2007, he has been managing partner at Chrysalix Ventures, a global venture capital fund with a long history commercializing disruptive innovations in resource intensive industries. Mr. MacKellar’s previous startups experience includes raising $57 million in venture capital financing, growing a company of two to one hundred people and positioning a startup for acquisition that resulted in annualized investor returns of 45% to 60%. He has built strategic relationships with large corporations including GE, Honeywell, Mitsubishi, large utilities and the United States. Mr. MacKellar has a Metallurgy Degree from Sheffield University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Serge Lavergne

Board Member

Mr. Lavergne is a business leader with thirty years of experience, starting his career as an engineer, moving onto manage major engineering-construction and transportation companies before finally orienting his career towards financing and venture capital. Mr. Lavergne has served on the boards of several technology and manufacturing/construction companies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Université de Sherbrooke, a master’s degree in Environmental Science from the Université de Sherbrooke and a Certified Corporate Administrator certification from the College of Corporate Directors of the Laval University.
